Meet Diana Aluoch, a 23 years old who studied at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. Diana said she embarked on an internship journey that promised to be a profound learning experience. Her purpose was crystal clear - to learn, develop professional connections, and embrace networking opportunities that would introduce her to a myriad of professionals from diverse fields. Diana's academic background in community health and development was the foundation upon which she sought to build her professional path.

Diana summed up her tenure at WOVOP from February 2022 to November 2022 in one word: GROWTH. She didn't just learn; she relearned and unlearned, shaping her perspective and skills. Volunteering at WOVOP provided her with a profound sense of belonging, encouragement, love, and invaluable skills and experiences that are vital for her professional journey. The time spent with WOVOP became a wellspring of inspiration, guiding her in various aspects of life.

Working alongside WOVOP allowed Diana to delve into the community dynamics that the organization was dedicated to improving. What got her curious and concerned was the realization that by engaging with community members and giving back, meaningful relationships are forged. These relationships become instrumental in identifying the root causes of the challenges faced by the community. For example, during peace dialogues, it became evident that domestic violence was a pervasive issue, often concealed due to fear.

One challenge that deeply resonated with Diana was the absence of a dedicated IT staff member. Building IT capacity for transforming data into knowledge posed a significant challenge. Her proposed solution was to engage a volunteer with IT knowledge to provide support, bridging this critical gap.

She also had her fair share of low moments, especially when tasks couldn't be completed as expected. However, the bright spots were equally abundant. The freedom to think and the mental check-ins with colleagues in an isolated place brought moments of joy and rejuvenation.

Diana described WOVOP's work as a targeted effort to address underlying community challenges and create positive change. Through teamwork and efficient coordination, WOVOP consistently achieved its goals. Diana actively participated in the Mental Friday program, which provides a safe space for young people to openly talk about their mental health journeys and demystify the healing and stigma surrounding mental health. This initiative transformed the perception of mental health, erasing the notion that it is a minor issue. The WOVOP team were more than just colleagues to her, they were a loving and encouraging family. Diana felt at home every time she stepped into the office, an environment that fostered personal and professional growth.

Among the projects at WOVOP, she claimed that the Peace Talks held a special place in her heart. This initiative allowed individuals to understand the root causes of conflicts within the community. By comprehending why people were in conflict, it became possible to enhance peaceful coexistence at every level of engagement.

Diana recommended maintaining positive relationships with volunteers, emphasizing the crucial role of social support in building resilience and coping with workplace stress. She expressed her gratitude for the time spent at WOVOP and hoped that her path would cross with the organization again in the near future.

In conclusion, Diana strongly recommended young people to join WOVOP's exchange, volunteer, or internship program. She emphasized that volunteering is an investment that enables personal and professional growth, making WOVOP the ideal space for such transformative experiences.
