Meet Wendy Akoth! A remarkable young graduate from Maseno University with a degree in Gender and Development studies. She volunteered for two years as the Programs and Communication Coordinator where she dedicated her time and showed interest in gender, development, peace, and security. Brace yourself for her extraordinary journey, filled with compassion, resilience, and a drive to make a difference.

Wendy's impact in Kisumu County was nothing short of marvelous. She wholeheartedly dedicated herself to assisting Adolescent Girls and Young Women who faced barriers in accessing higher education due to insufficient sexual and reproductive health resources. Through a powerful school campaign and acts of philanthropy, Wendy ensured that these young individuals received dignity kits containing sanitary pads, inner-wear, tissue, soap, face towels, and lotion, to enable the girls to navigate their menstrual cycles with dignity and confidence.

Wendy expressed that her low moments included facing obstacles when partners failed to support young girls at times. However, fuelled by persistence and determination, the team overcame these challenges together. Wendy's true joy stemmed from working closely with young girls and women, celebrating their achievements and supporting them through their unique challenges. Together, they embraced femininity and empowered each other to overcome barriers.

Working with WOVOP proved to be an immensely rewarding experience for Wendy. She shared that the WOVOP's unwavering commitment to championing for the rights of women and girls left an indelible mark on her. Witnessing the incredible efforts made by young girls and women in meeting their sexual and reproductive health needs, as well as their inclusion in peace-building processes, filled Wendy with a profound sense of purpose.

But it wasn't just about the work. Wendy cherished the camaraderie and dedication of WOVOP staff, who welcomed her with open arms. She found her place and thrived while working on the transformative campaign, "Keep a Girl safe and in School".Wendy reflected that WOVOP creates an environment where young women and girls can tap into their skills and abilities, realizing collective goals and fostering their personal growth.

"WOVOP is a beacon of hope and progress, inspiring countless individuals to tap into their potential and create a better future for all. If you are looking to join a community of driven and passionate individuals that ensure the voices of young women and girls are not only heard but also listened to and prioritized in SRHR and Peacebuilding, consider joining the volunteer program at WOVOP!" Wendy added when asked if she would recommend the program.
